Jam for Bread

Jam for Bread Gigs

Jam for BreadIt’s Human Rights Day on 10th December; we’re celebrating by organising two Jam for Bread music gigs around that time.

In 2008 Gilles Peterson, BBC Radio 1 DJ hosted world class acts at Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Join the wave of mini Jam for Bread events around the country!

People around the UK are planning mini Jam for Bread events.  Could you be one of them?  If you have a passion for live music please get involved in organising a fundraiser.

Ideas for your own music fundraiser!

  • Are you in a band, or do you have friends who are?  If so, how about playing at a local pub ‘Jam for Bread at the Dog and Duck’, charging for tickets and donating proceeds to the Medical Foundation
  • Are you a DJ or are you proud of your ipod playlists?  How about asking a bar or nightclub if you can put on a club night and take the proceeds from the door?
  • Could you put on your own mini festival in your garden – wrap up warm!
  • Do you and your friends all like to jam?  How about a sponsored 24 hour Jam for Bread session?
  • Battle of the Bands is an old favourite for a reason!  A great atmosphere will be created with a bit of competition.  Ask the bands to donate a fixed amount to enter – a prize and prestige for the winners!
  • The Live Lounge – get three of four acts to come and do acoustic covers of famous tracks in different styles in your own front room (check with the neighbours first!).  Buy in some cheap drinks and have a suggested donation for each drink at a make shift bar!

Tell us your ideas too!  Please email us at events@torturecare.org.uk or call us on 020 7697 7788 to tell us your ideas and plans.

What we’ll do to help:

  • We’ll help you to promote the event with posters, websites etc, so you’ll benefit from being part of a high impact music movement
  • You’ll have a fundraiser at the Medical Foundation to chat to and answer all of your questions
